Meeting Minutes
May 6, 2021
I. Call to Order/Roll Call
President Spakowicz called the meeting of the Village of Pewaukee Police Commission to order at 6:01 p.m. on May 6, 2021 in the Village Hall Board Room. Secretary McNeill conducted a roll call.
The following persons were present: President David Spakowicz, Commissioners William Gehrking, Peter Rohde, Jill Bloedow and Secretary Mary McNeil!. Also present were Chief Timothy Heier and Lt. Garry.
II. Citizen Comments
There were no citizen comments or correspondence from the public presented to the commission.
III. Approval of Minutes of Previous Meetings
The minutes of the April 27, 2010 meeting were presented for review.
Commissioner Gehrking made a motion to accept the minutes. Commissioner Rohde seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
IV. Election of Commission Officers
Commissioner Rohde made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Bloedow, to nominate Dave Spakowicz as commission president.
The vote passed unanimously with President Spakowicz abstaining from the vote.
President Spakowicz made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Bloedow, to nominate Commissioner McNeill as commission secretary.
The vote passed unanimously with Commissioner McNeill abstaining from the vote.
V. Discussion of Department Structure
Chief Heier presented a chart showing the police department structure to the commission. Discussion pursued regarding the various options for restructuring. Any changes will be determined at a later date.
VI. Closed Session
Secretary McNeill made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Rohde, to move the Village of Pewaukee Commission into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 19.85 (1) (c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation, or employment evaluation responsibility, specifically to evaluate applicants for the position of police officer.
Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The Commissioners unanimously voted to move into closed session. The Commission then moved into closed session at 6:40 p.m.
VII. Reconvene into Open Session
Commissioner Rohde made a motion, seconded by Secretary McNeill, to reconvene into open session.
Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The motion passed unanimously.
The Commission then reconvened into open session at 7:48 p.m.
VIII. Possible Action on Patrol Officer Candidates
Commissioner Rohde made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Bloedow, to provide Chief Heier with the names of Jason Moczynski and Valerie Gunderman for the next step in our selection process. Based on the outcome of the process, Chief Heier will determine the final selection. All other candidates are not being considered. The motion passes unanimously.
IX. Adjournment
Commissioner Gehrking made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Commissioner Bloedow. The motion was passed unanimously. President Spakowicz adjourned the meeting at 7:58 p.m.
