Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2021
I. Call to Order/Roll Call
President Spakowicz called the meeting of the Village of Pewaukee Police Commission to order at 6:03 p.m. on July 19, 2021, in the Village Hall Board Room. Secretary McNeill conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: President David Spakowicz, Commissioners William Gehrking, Jill Bloedow and Secretary Mary McNeil!. Commissioner Pete Rohde was excused. Chief Timothy Heier, Lt. Mark Garry and Police Officer Christian Fox were also present
II. Citizen Comments
There were no citizen comments nor were there any citizens present at the police commission meeting. The Police Commission and all 5 Commission members received a sealed letter from Mr. Bruce Kettinger, who resides at 321 Morris Street, Apt #1, in the Village of Pewaukee. The correspondence detailed a lack of response by police personnel that resulted in his formal complaint. The matter was referred to Chief Heier for investigation. President Spakowicz stated he would send a letter to Mr. Kettinger advising him of the action taken. A copy of the letter and the envelope are attached.
III. Approval of Minutes of Previous Meetings
The minutes of the May 6, 2021 meeting were presented for review. Commissioner Gehrking made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Commissioner Bloedow seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
IV. Closed Session
Commissioner Bloedow made a motion, seconded by Secretary McNeill, to move the Village of Pewaukee Commission into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 19 .85 (1) ( c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation, or employment evaluation responsibility, specifically to evaluate applicants for the position of a police officer. Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The Commissioners unanimously voted to move into closed session. The Commission then moved into closed session at 6:07 p.m.
V. Reconvene into Open Session
Commissioner Gehrking made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Bloedow, to reconvene into open session. Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The motion passed unanimously. The Commission then reconvened into open session at 9:03 p.m.
VI. Possible Action on Patrol Officer Candidates
The Commission interviewed 3 candidates. Lt. Mark Garry advised the Police Department will develop a second list of candidates for interviews on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. No hiring recommendations were made by the Police Commission.
VII. Adjournment
Commissioner Gehrking made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Secretary McNeill. The motion was passed unanimously. President Spakowicz adjourned the meeting at 9:08 p.m.
